To promote moderate and inclusive attitudes among young people to encourage peaceful and constructive coexistence.

                                          Our aims

developing and broadening young people’s skills and knowledge in order to challenge stereotypes and combat prejudice

encouraging reflection on extreme religious values and sources of cultural bias.

raising awareness of young peoples’ rights in the face of racial and religious prejudice

providing a neutral forum for young people to safely express and share opinions

facilitating contact between different faiths and ethnic groups.

We target vulnerable 11-18 year olds from some of the most deprived and ethnically and religiously diverse neighbourhoods that are noted for high incidence of youth crime, bullying, intolerance and discrimination.

We work in schools, youth clubs and Religious Organisations across greater London, in boroughs such as Hackney, Camden, Tower Hamlets and Lambeth

Sessions are delivered over 2 workshops of 1-1 ½ hrs. They interactive, participant-led and mediated rather than taught, with young people encouraged to identify, appraise and challenge beliefs which harden inter-faith, race and community tensions within a safe environment.

Activities include ice-breaker and brainstorming activities, role play, multimedia resources, relevant current news stories, thought provoking scenarios and images designed to get young people to identify and explore their own pre-existing stereotypes.

Feedback is key to our programme and the development of content. Attendance sheets, feedback questionnaires and evaluation forms are all used to record and analyse the extent to which young people have benefited from the programme, as well as a way of integrating their own ideas on how to make the programme better.

Wider Community action...we also work within the wider community and have set up links with the Metropolitan police, Deans London and Interlinkx CIC to provide sports and leisure activities to add fun to young people’s lives in Hackney.  The project aims to reduce violent racially and religiously motivated crime on the city streets.

Volunteering... Our programme is entirely volunteer-led, with a regular team of dedicated young individuals with a passionate interest in the idea of tolerance helping deliver sessions across London.

We are always looking for new volunteers, if you would like to volunteer for Tolerance International UK and help make a real difference to the stereotypes and opinions of young people in a variety of different locations please email our Programme Co-ordinator at uktolerance@toleranceinternational.org.uk
